The best and worse Joomla hosts |
|
We have been working with Joomla since Joomla was incepted in September 2005.
We have seen many hosting companies come and go. We have supported tens of thousands of our own customers throughout the years and we have seen, heard, and have had personal experience with many hosting companies both good and bad.
Many new and experienced Joomla users just simply don't realize how important it is to have a top quality hosting company to have your site run at it's peak performance. Here are our recommendations for choosing a top performing Joomla hosting company and some of the worse hosting companies that you should NEVER host your Joomla site with.
Keep in mind that cheap means cheap! And we aren't talking about pricing either.
Our Top Picks For Hosting Your Joomla Website (in no particular order). We are not posting reviews on all the different hosting companies companies out there. This is just our own personal reccomendations of which companies we feel are of great benefit for our customers to host their sites with.
- Rochen Performance Hosting
Rochen hosts the Joomla.org websites and has done so since Joomla was formed. I have met the Rochen team personally on a few occasions and also dealt with their support staff and they are a great Joomla host.
- Cloud Access
Cloud Access host the Joomla demo site. This company's cloud computing solution is robust, fast, and scaleable for any size Joomla website. You get an instant installation of Joomla when you sign up. They offer many built in tools and a custom control panel built just for Joomla and you can also have automatic updates configured so that you never have wo worry about running an outdated version of Joomla ever again. We have met most of the Cloud Access team on many occasions and they have a top notch support and development team in place. Oh, and they ONLY host Joomla sites so they are experts at it.
- Plexi Cloud
Another cloud based hosting solution for Joomla. The owners of this hosting company have their roots in the linux world and are experts with Joomla. Fully managed, scaleable, and the team is very talented.
- 1and1.com
One of the best hosting companies ever. We have hosted with this company for over 6 years now and we have used pretty much every hosting package they offer. And they have recently added a new cloud computing solution to their server mix. We personally have a few dedicated servers with 1and1 and their security is top notch and their support is very good. Their managed hosting packages have a very easy to use control panel as well.
Ok now for our views on who the worse hosting companies that you can have your Joomla site running on. We have compiled this list based on personal experiences of our own as well as the massive numbers of clients that we support on a daily basis.
- Godaddy.com
If you want your site to run slow then go ahead and get this host. This hosting company is great for a 5 page basic html website. But for running anything as robust as Joomla then you are just asking for trouble.
- Siteground.com
This hosting company is one of the most shoddy and unscroupulous hosting companies around. There are many hosting review sites our there that say they have given awards to Siteground but the fact is all of those awards and review sites WERE CREATED BY SITEGROUND!
Want proof?

- Dreamhost.com
Slow servers, poor support, downtime is excessive. Just not good for hosting a Joomla site.
- Yahoo Hosting
Yahoo does many things well, hosting Joomla sites is not one of them. They do not even allow you to access the .htaccess file. if you want to use SEF URLs. The price is higher than most.
